Parents:

The Hyde park field trip was an exceptional experience for our students and chaperones.  We had never been to the Culinary Institute before, but we are sure that it will continue to be a part of our future trips to Hyde Park.  Most students felt their experience at the CIA was worthwhile, which is quite a good 8th grade compliment.  They usually say the bus ride was the best part!

While at the CIA, our busses were trapped in the center of a solemn 9/11 ceremony, and many of our students missed their excursion to the Vanderbilt mansion.  However, in exchange, we witnessed a touching moment of tribute to three CIA alumni who lost their lives in the World Trade center.  We watched a baby and her mother reveal a memorial of tribute, and we decided to learn more about these people.  Click here to see the web site we read in class.

The woman and baby were Jean O'Leary and her son Michael.  Our class was touched by this family's loss, and have decided to do our best to touch their lives in a positive way.

Mr. Vititow has put up a voluntary $1 challenge to students on the team.  If all students participate at $1, we can raise $100 and buy Michael a savings bond for college.  Some students will contribute pictures of the day's field trip, including our photos of this 9/11 tribute that we witnessed for a scrap book.  I am writing Mrs. O'Leary a letter of explanation, and will include with it any letters written by students to the family.

I will update you on the progress of this event.

With them are Gerald's father-in-law Robert McCarthy, mother Julie Lestrange, and stepfather George Lestrange. Also honored at the April 16, 2003 ceremony were Heather Ho '93 and Jay Robert Magazine '75. All three CIA alumni were killed in the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001.
